Ann Romney, Sterling Nielsen, and Jay Francis to be Recognized as the 2018 Titan Award Honorees by the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce
The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the 2018 Titan Award Honorees. This award recognizes leaders in the community that have set themselves apart, not because of their titles and positions, but for the way they lift and inspire others.

Ann Romney is the two-time best-selling author of “The Romney Family Table” and “In This Together” and Global Ambassador for the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Mrs. Romney also sits on the Board of Directors of CharityVision, which focuses on empowering local physicians in the developing world to bring sight to those most in need.
In 1998, Mrs. Romney was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She has volunteered much of her time to raise awareness of the disease. By raising the profile of MS, as well as raising funds for advocacy and research, she is determined to make a difference in the lives of people who suffer from the disease.
The Romneys celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary this year. They have five sons, five daughters-in-law, and 24 grandchildren.
Sterling Nielsen was named President and CEO of Mountain America Credit Union in November 2008. He has been with Mountain America since 1995, previously serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer and Controller.
As a credit union executive, Nielsen has been responsible for financial management, strategic planning, facilities expansion, technology implementation, human resources, employee development and marketing. He is a consistent and proactive performer with a history of delivering successful membership and asset growth, new product development, excellent sales programs and enhanced member service strategies. Nielsen is a Certified Public Accountant, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Brigham Young University.
Nielsen’s personal trademark is that of being genuine, kind and a seeker of good. He spreads the word about the credit union industry’s commitment to the People Helping People philosophy, which has led him to actively support the communities where Mountain America does business through establishing the Pay It Forward program, which airs weekly on KUTV, and highlights charitable organizations and the inspirational people who are devoted to helping others in need.
He and his wife, Stephanie, have five children.
Jay Francis has been with the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies for 33 years and is currently the Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs & Miller Family Philanthropy for the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. In this role, he oversees the corporate and community relations for the Larry H. Miller Group including the Larry H. Miller Education Foundation, and the Driven 2 Teach program, as well as the philanthropic efforts of both the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, and Larry H. Miller Charities. Francis is the Executive Director for the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation and The Miller Family Office.
During his 22 years with the Utah Jazz and the sports and entertainment group, Francis oversaw all aspects of advertising and marketing, event and game operations, ticket and suite sales, public and community relations, event creation, and sponsorships. Francis also had oversight of the Utah Jazz customer service center. He played a key role in organizing the National Basketball Association’s first marketing advisory board and served a two-year term as one of its charter board members.
Francis serves on various boards which include past chair for The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, vice-chair for United Way of Salt Lake and as chairman of the board for EDCUtah, The Anti Bullying Coalition and serves on the Promised Partnership Regional Council. He and his wife LeeAnn both serve on the National Advisory Council for the business college at UVU. Francis attended the University of Utah prior to spending the first five years of his career at Baker/Francis and Associates, a family-owned advertising company.
Francis and his wife LeeAnn have four children and eleven grandchildren, and make their home in South Jordan, Utah.
