Michael Allegra has more than 37 years of experience in the transit industry. Allegra began his career in 1976 as a transportation engineer for Utah’s Wasatch Front Regional Council. Three years later, he joined the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) as a planner/engineer. Over the course of his career, he worked through nearly every aspect of the UTA organization, directing the planning, funding, design, and construction of UTA’s rail system and overseeing a program which will expand UTA’s system to include the addition of 140 miles of rail in just over a decade. This extensive expertise culminated in his selection as UTA’s general manager in 2010. Some of his professional highlights include participation in Salt Lake City’s Olympic bid and coordinating the successful transportation efforts during the 2002 Olympic Games; the acquisition of 200 miles of right-of-way for UTA’s rail initiatives; and transforming the UTA into a multi-modal operation including light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, bus rapid transit, and expanded bus service. Allegra received a master’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and sits on several professional boards including the American Public Transportation Association, the Transportation Research Board, the Transportation Learning Center, the Utah Foundation, EDCUtah, and the Salt Lake Area and Greater Sandy Area Chambers of Commerce.

5 Years into the hotel business I found Scheels. Now after 22 years with the company, my only regret is not finding them sooner. I have managed 5 stores, and plan to end my Scheels career in Sandy Utah.
I have served on several boards over the years, and currently a member of board of director for Scheels All Sports, a member of the Utah Sport Commission, Sandy Tourism board, and a member of the Sandy Honorary Colonels.
